EVIC Awarded Carnegie Corporation Grant
July 15th, 2006
EVIC has received a $17,000 grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York to support the Election Day Survey Enhancement Project, to run through January 2007. This grant has been generously supplemented by the American Enterprise Institute / Brookings Institute Election Reform Project and the Charles McKinley Fund at Reed College.
The Election Day Survey was administered by the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) after the 2004 election, in response to the ongoing controversy over election administration, equity of access, and voter fraud. The EAC was created by Congress as part of the 2002 Help America Vote Act (HAVA). The 2004 Election Day Survey was the first nationwide census of election rules and procedures, election machinery, and use of absentee, early, and provisional ballots. The Election Day Survey Enhancement project will make the survey more widely accessible to scholars, policy makers, and the general public, by creating an innovative, easy to use, web-based facility to retrieve information, run statistical analyses, and produce maps using the survey dataset. EVIC will also supplement the EDS with demographic information and fill in missing data, allowing a more comprehensive look at election administration in the country.
